FAQ

Is it an academic program or not ?

Per se, it’s not, because it doesn’t train you for an official certificate like Delf. Nevertheless, it follows a very clear progression, a carefully crafted learning process. This is the result of 5 years teaching to expats, who need to communicate.

The videos are in English, but I believe everything should be in the
target language. Isn’t it counterproductive ?

Full immersion is the best way to learn a language, I agree. In fact, this is how I learned English and Spanish myself. But, I had the chance to dedicate my whole time learning, with daily classes.

When I learned German, it was a whole different story. I was working in a company this time. Weekly classes only in German were difficult to understand, specially after a long day.

This program has been designed for this specific situation. For professional people, working long hours in a company likely to use English. For people not living in a French-speaking country who plan to attend French-speaking customers or providers.

Other schools provide material all in French with subtitles in a variety of languages. That, is counterproductive, in my opinion. Your attention is diverted from the visual content towards the subtitles. It also requires more effort to read instead of just listening. In the videos, I explain rules in English but then I give plenty of examples of French sentences, applying exactly what we are learning.

A1, A2 videos are in English. B1 videos are a mix of English and French. B2, C1 are in French only.

I am not an expat, I don’t live in a French-speaking country, is the program not for me ?

It can be as well. It depends on your goal, but above all your situation. This program is designed for busy students, unable to attend classes on a regular basis. What this program is not designed to, though, are those in need of an official certificate. The goal is to be able to speak quickly.

I am not much into grammar, I just want to handle small talks.
Is there a program with such orientation ?

This course is not to learn sentences by heart in order to repeat them in specific situations. Grammar is a necessary evil to understand the language and be able to make it your own. Therefore, we will study grammar and put it in practice right away. Soon, you’ll be able to improvise, and learning words will become easier. You don’t need a perfect grammar to handle conversations, but it sure helps to understand it.

If you anyway just want to learn specific sentences, then private one-on-one sessions would be your best and fastest option.

I am good learning by myself. Can I just purchase the self-study material ?

Sorry, but no, material and classes go hand in hand. Self-study material is great to learn and review again, when needed. But oral comprehension and pronunciation are put in practice with live classes.

It’s easy to loose pace and delay the learning process. With classes, the objective stays in sight.

There are plenty of French courses out there, why would I choose this one ?

Yes, there are many good ones. You just have to find one that fits you. It’s important to feel comfortable with the teacher and the material. I teach students from all over the world, and I am confident in my teaching method. Check my YouTube channel to know me better or… just give it a try. I guaranty you will learn something.
